Alanah is a one-off racing dinghy (somewhere between a dinghy and a keelboat) that I'm told was built in about 1990 as a possible sister to the Dragon class although I have no paperwork. There is a class mark on the sails which I can't find listed anywhere and sail number 2. The sails and deck equipment seem to be of the best branded quality. As you'll see from the rake of the mast and the lifting centreboard everything on it seems to be bespoke. With this centreboard in place she draws about 1 metre; there is another centreboard which is slightly longer and would I guess draw about 1.2-1.3m. I bought her a few years ago from a guy in Anglesey who had raced her. I have sailed her a couple of times and she performs scarily well. She seems to have been designed to sail at around 45 degrees to the water (note the trapezes and the telltale self bailers part way up the freeboard!). I have reluctantly decided that fast dinghies are for younger people (I'll be 66 next month) and concluded that I'm unlikely to sail her again: time for someone else to take her over. She's ok in light winds but can be a bit of a beast in a blow. She comes with 3 suits of fully battened sails - 1 racing and 2 cruising - and 3 spinnakers, one of which has a few holes in it, all repairable. The racing sails have seen some use but seem sound; the cruising sets are still pretty stiff and I'd guess have quite a bit of life in them. There is a road trailer - condition not checked for roadworthiness and a cover that seems to be nearing the end of its useful life.If you're interested do come and see her. She's here in Wivenhoe and available to view by appointment.
