Description
Depending on the time of year, it would cost between £600 and £1200 a week to hire a 2 + 2 berth river cruiser equivalent to ‘Sailor V’ on the French inland waterways.
As one of the co-owners of ‘Sailor V’, however, your week's cruise would cost you between £270 and £400.
This auction is for 2 shares in the ‘Sailor V’ co-ownership syndicate which entitle the member/shareholder to ownership of 1/15th of the syndicate assets (boat, trailer and other equipment) and two weeks' use of the boat on the French inland waterways every March or October for a minimum of 10 years. The availability and price of other weeks/shares are set out on the syndicate website. Shares/weeks in the syndicate do not have to be consecutive and can be sold at any time.
My name is Edmund Sylvester and I have designed and built ‘Sailor V’ using my 30 years of experience building boats for exploring the rivers and canals of mainland Europe and I intend to be an active member of the ‘Sailor V’ syndicate.
This is a private, non-commercial syndicate run by the members for the members. There are no management fees. The ‘Sailor V’ syndicate is similar to others I have set up in France, the first of which is now in its tenth successful year and the members have recently voted to keep it going for at least another five years. ‘Sailor V’ is an 8.25m (26ft) trailerable 2+2 berth river cruiser constructed from exceptionally strong low-maintenance epoxy composite. It is currently in the final stages of fitting out at my yard near Marlborough, Wilts and, although it has already been tested on the Kennet and Avon canal, it will have its 'official' launch in France in April/May 2017. Because 'Sailor V' is trailerable it can be moved to a wide variety of cruising locations during the life of the syndicate according to the wishes of syndicate members. The general plan for the first year or two is that the boat will spend the spring and autumn in southern France (Canal du Midi, Rhône à Sête, Garonne, Lot, Baïse) and the summer on the many rivers and canals of Burgundy based near Auxerre (Yonne) or St. Jean de Losne (nr Dijon, Côte d'Or). Spring 'try-before-you-buy' cruise - a taste of life afloat in Burgundy. If you are toying with the idea of becoming a syndicate member you might like to consider consider joining me after Easter for a few days' cruise in Sailor V on the rivers and canals of Burgundy. The cost - £240 per person (£400 per couple) per 6 days and 6 nights, food and drink on board included - will be refunded in full if you subsequently decide to go ahead and become a member of the syndicate. However, no one coming for a cruise will be under any pressure or obligation to join the syndicate. Full details are available on the syndicate website which, as Ebay won't let me give you the address here, you can find by Googling 'Sailor V Syndicate' or by contacting me on 07867 94 33 95 or by email at . Visitors wishing to inspect the boat while it is still in the UK are always welcome at my boatyard by prior arrangement.
