Think of it as a floating house that can be taken to any live-aboard paradise along the intra-coastal waterway. Everything that you need to know to restore this boat is covered in the book "This Old Boat - Second Edition" which is available on Amazon and elsewhere on the web. Also there are lots of great "How To" videos on Youtube as well as a couple dozen other books available on every aspect of restoring classic sailboats.Previous owners bought this and began to do a full re-model but then were offered a "ready to go" catamaran for a great price and decided to go the Cat route rather than keeping the mono-hull and completing the restoration.On a limited budget you could put a beefy outboard motor bracket on the back and for a few hundred bucks buy a cheap donated little aluminum boat with a 25hp or larger outboard motor. The interior needs cushions and drawers and sinks and stove and stuff. Basically all the same things that a house needs that is going though a remodel- new kitchen sink, new appliances, new cabinets, new beds, new paint etc..On a slightly better budget, with a few thousand dollars to work with you could re-build or replace the diesel engine and you could take this boat to any paradise cove anchorage in the world and live comfortably beside the sandy beaches and palm trees of paradise. The full keel filled with lead makes this a very stable boat, but also it has very shallow draft so it can go many places in the Florida Keys and Bahamas etc. that deeper draft vessels cannot get to. This means you could take it to places where you can adopt your own private beach and most other sailboats can't get to, giving you a private paradise.The wheel steering is very nice and the center cockpit provides and incredible amount of space on deck as well and dividing the boat into two cabins underneath. The roller furler also looks to be in great shape and so is the rig and mast. No sails are included but I have sources where we can likely get you a nice set of good condition used sails for about $750. The black and white photo is from the old Gulfstar brochures. I thought you might like to see what these boats look like with the mast up and sailing. This one has two masts for the ketch rig and the one in that photo is only the single mast sloop. The ketch is the same but with a shorter aft mast and the ketch rigs sail better than the sloops from what I have researched.These boats in restored condition regularly sell for $25K to $50K, but if you have carpentry and painting skills you could achieve the same vessel for a fraction of that price by investing some plywood and paint and your own sweat equity. This would be the perfect cruiser for a retired couple on fixed income who want to live aboard affordably or a young surfer or scuba couple who want a cheap floating home to explore the Caribbean or Bahamas. This could also be a perfect boat for someone who wants to live aboard in New York City or somewhere else with super high rent to be closer to nature and save some money by not having to rent an apartment. I lived in NYC for two years on a mooring and only had to pay $1550 per spring/summer/fall to be in an excellent neighborhood on Manhattan's upper west side with showers and internet and only a few hundred to stay at anchor on Long Island's north shore for winter.Payment is due in full within 24 hours.
