Description Year of Registration: 1996 Beam (Feet): 12.6 Manufacturer: Broom Engine Type: Inboard Type: Dual Steer Engine Manufacturer: Perkins Length (Feet): 43
Built by Brooms Boats of Brundall, and fully refitted in 2011, Thunder is a high quality Broads Cruiser with a Brooms heritage. Classic lines combine with modern construction to offer a boat that is a pleasure to own and a joy to be seen in. A low wash design with sliding canopy, Thunder gives you an extensive range of Broads cruising. A choice of two steering positions makes this an all-weather craft too. At 43ft and powered by a reliable Perkins MC42 diesel engine, Thunder sleeps 8 (3 cabins plus saloon). In the sunshine there’s plenty of room in the large saloon to enjoy the warmth and with a split sliding roof you can take full advantage of the weather with both sections of the roof open, or fully or partially closed either side to give shelter from any breeze. Thunder is a joy to control too with impressive manoeuvrability helped by the bow thruster and electric mud weight. Everything works beautifully, whether you choose the flying bridge or the saloon steering positions. It’s all at the touch of a button. The high specification continues throughout Thunder with shore power charging the batteries and with shore power plugs to all cabins you can enjoy some of the comforts from home-including the hairdryer! The shore power also powers an immersion heater which provides hot water to allow for those morning showers without starting the engine. The kitchen is well stocked with an excellent inventory, a fridge with ice box and a microwave. The gas oven also has a separate grill along with four rings. The saloon boasts a 28inch LCD television (not sure we have seen bigger on a boat on the Broads!) and a BlueRay player. For the colder months of the year there is 5kw Eberspacher diesel powered heater with a 7 day programmable timer and shore power allows for plug in heaters to be used (within the limits of the shore power). The full refurb included new carpets, new curtains, reupholstering of the saloon, an engine bar heater to protect the engine from the cold and an external wrap around front windscreen cover. The rear double mattress has also just been replaced with a sprung mattress. Thunder was designed to fit under all of the bridges so that she can cruise all the navigable waters of the Broads, however these days Potter Heigham is becoming a bridge too far but owners often squeeze her under Wroxham Bridge. Although the current Perkins engine has been faultless in its service the finances are almost in place to renew the engine this year with a brand new Volvo D2-50 engine which is new to the market this year. There are 12.5 shares in in Thunder. 12 'Full' shares and one 'Half' Share. (two full shares and the half share are "school holiday shares"). This full share would entitle the owner to at least four one week holidays in each of the seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. By owning this full share in Thunder an owner would own an 8% stake in her for life and are responsible for 8% of the annual running costs on an annual basis. This can be paid 6 monthly in advance or by monthly standing order. Annual running and maintenance costs are currently around £1,400 per year per full share. This includes the management fee payable to BCBM (our current Management Company) and for a cleaner at the end of your week. This excludes the winter maintenance fee for which you can expect to pay around £250 each year although this is dependent on the work to be carried out- this is agreed at the AGM each year by the owners. The annual cost of owning a four week share in Thunder is comparable to hiring a similar boat in high season. The fees are paid into the syndicate boat account which currently has around £5,000 in it. Holiday allocations are 'drawn from a hat' at an annual AGM following the allocation of the school holiday shares and members are encouraged to make swaps with other owners. Running costs and any additional winter maintenance are discussed and agreed at the AGM for the following year. When owners are unable to use their allocated weeks that week is made available to other syndicate members on a first come first served basis. All they need to pay for is their diesel and pump out.All members of the syndicate are required to sign a copy of the syndicate agreement. Brooms Our mooring is in a great position within the yard being right on the rivers edge with shore power available. Onsite there are private, toilets and washing machine. The Yare pub is short walk from the morning as is Brundall Train Station and an excellent chandlers. This means it is easy to use Thunder as a floating cottage and have a great holiday without even starting the engine. Management company The costs above include the services of BCBM who have been appointed by the owners as a management company to deal with the day to day running of the syndicate. This means that as an owner you do not have any worries, you can literally arrive at Brooms for your week, turn the key and go (although you may want to take some personal belongings on-board!)
