My crew and I sailed and motored Double Jeopardy from Massachusetts to Charleston last year, reaching Charleston on July 2. Two weeks later, I broke my right wrist. Because DJ is a tiller boat and sometimes sails in really heavy wind (as in the trip south to Charleston), the doctor tells me I won't be able to drive her again. On the way south, we encountered every type of weather from March to July and this boat did not miss a beat. She is STURDY! The Yanmar HM is a beast (and was totally rebuilt in 2014 at a cost of 8k)! She comes with a crisp main, multiple head and spinnaker sails! From the time I bought her last February, I had all of the cockpit windows replaced (she does not leak), the two compasses refurbished and resealed, added an autopilot for the tiller, added a digital readout for the batteries and replaced the reverse gear in the throttle. Downstairs she has four fold-out bunks and two settees as well as a head behind the bulkhead. I added a new VHF radio last year and she has the standard wind direction and wind speed instruments as well as a depth meter. She was formerly known as Smiles when she won the one ton IRC and since has been named JADE and BACCHAE (when she was raced in Buzzards Bay with a PHRF of 69). Local pick up only. Sold as-is. I have paid the slip fee through the end of February, so pick up must be made by the end of February or you can make arrangements with the City Marina to continue renting the slip. Because I sailed her on three separate legs from Mass. to S.C., I can answer most any question you have.Just added ten new photos today, Feb. 1. First photo under sail is from Fall 2015 - DJ's last race. Second photo is from more than a decade ago. The photo with DJ hauled out is from last June when the reverse gear failed and we had it repaired/replaced in Norfolk. All other photos were taken today. Two settees below, the one with the blue seat. Last photo is the auto pilot added last year.I had not started the engine since last September. Started immediately this morning. Again, it is a BEAST! Per above, the hull needs to be buffed out - it's dirty and buffing will remove dirt and minor scratches. No reason to have a diver clean the bottom right now because, should the winning buyer be out of town then sailing to the new port should clean it up well. This is a no reserve auction. Meaning that when somebody bids $10,000.00 the boat will sell for the highest bid made. I am available to show the boat most anytime. Feb 3 update - When I purchased the boat last year it came with 24 sails, many of which I went through and trashed because they were not "raceable." I performed and inventory this morning A) Two main sails, one canvas and crinkly "like new" which is on the boom in the photos, the other is mylar which is shown in the first photo and in excellent shape - this is the one for racing B) Five spinnakers, all useable and raceable C) Four head sails, some with a little delamination but the previous owner raced with them and they are useable D) One "reacher E) One stay sail, does not look like it has bee used very much. There are four cabin top winches, six cockpit winches. All shown in photos. This boat is maxed out to race. Feb 4 update - battery No. 2 has not been used since last July. It's reading just a little low - placing a new replacement on board. Bilge pump seemed to work 90% of time on way from Mass. to Charleston - placing on board new bilge pump and switch. Charleston City Marina replaced the fuel filter . . . appears they pulled out the connection to the fuel gauge in the process - a 10 second fix. Placing several extra impellers on board for new buyer's trip. 25 extra gallons of diesel on board in five-gallon cans on deck. Will arrange for a pump out early this week at my cost. Getting tons of questions - posting most relevant.
