"Dawning Light II” Gaff cutter, built in 1987 by Benfleet Boat Co. – based on a 1936 Reg Freeman Design With Quality Road Trailer The smell of varnish hits you as soon as you come close to this stunningly beautiful 22ft 6”, traditional (but relatively young) weekender.. Length on Deck  22’ 6” (with bowsprit retracted), LOA 30’, LWL 18’ 6”. Beam 7’ 6”, Draft 3’ 3” Displacement approx. 2.5 Tons (towing weight with trailer estimated in region of 3 tons) The hull is Cold Moulded from four layers of epoxy glued mahogany, while the deck is sheathed and epoxied marine plywood. The keel is lead with silicon bronze bolts with internal ballast comprising of lead and iron. Her lines are based on a 1934 Reg Freeman designed boat which was built by Johnson & Jago, but “Dawning Light II” built by the Benfleet Boat Company in 1987, has the addition of the counter stern which really adds to her elegance. Her heavy construction, high ballast ratio long keel design offers sea-kindly performance with a comfortable motion – and her powerful rig and sail-plan make her a real passage maker at up to 6 knots.
