I’ll tell you what I know about this boat, but please bid on the basis that it’s a rough old boat and trailer that hasn’t been in the water for about ten years so I can’t give any information about how it’s going to perform beyond what is specified below. I bought this fibreglass boat about 15 years ago for the Caribbean hull. Previous owner said it was a 1970s model.
I thought the 1967 60 HP four cylinder two stroke Evinrude which came with it was no good and intended to ditch it as the previous owner hadn’t started or maintained it for years, but it surprised me by starting but blew way too much smoke. I stripped it down and found the cylinder bores were slightly scored and the piston rings worn. I honed the bores and rebuilt it with genuine Evinrude piston rings and other parts imported direct from the USA. Can’t remember now whether new rings were original size or over size. Still blows some blue smoke, which I suspect is because it’s a very large two stroke built at a time when nobody cared about emissions. Motor was repainted after rebuild and got non-original Evinrude decal, but paint now is only fair with rust in various places.
Took it out for the first test run and found that the motor ran fine but didn’t engage gears reliably, so I stripped the gear box down and replaced the defective parts. Gear box and motor worked fine after that, apart from a mystery thump I’ve never been able to locate when powering up from low speed after leaving the channel from the ramp. It doesn’t happen any other time. I suspect it’s caused by the motor settling into the cradle under power, but I can’t see what’s causing it. I used the boat occasionally on Westernport Bay for fishing for a few years, but most days I’d be lucky to run the motor for more than about half an hour going from the ramp to the fishing spot and returning. There is no hour meter on it, but I’d guess that it’s done about 12 to 15 hours on the rebuilt motor. It’s been sitting in a shed at Phillip Island for the past ten years or so as changed circumstances prevented me using it. It hasn’t been in the water for about ten years but early this year I ran it in a tank several times for between a few minutes and quarter of an hour and it ran fine. I pulled the impeller out at that time and it looks fine and pumps water okay. The impeller was new when I rebuilt the motor. The thermostat has been removed as I don’t think it pumps enough water with it installed, but the thermostat can come with it if you want it. The floor seems solid. Don't know if it's the original floor or a replacement. Transom sounds solid when tapped with hammer apart from soft spot on left side near top of splash well and on right side about midway between motor and outside edge of hull and about half way up around a bolt through the transom.
There is some damage to the foredeck as shown in the photos. Various nicks and scratches on hull and motor.Windscreen is hazy with some cracks with holes drilled to stop cracks spreading.
See photos for further description. Please note that the boat looks better in the photos than in real life. Trailer is old and rough, but towed okay from Phillip Island early this year. I replaced wheel bearings in trailer before towing it back to Melbourne. Needs some new rubber rollers and roller frames to replace bent ones keel sits on. Bit of fun there in removing rusted bolts.Trailer has rubber mats on the mudguards and treated pine walking boards under the hull to assist with launching and retrieval. It’s not a drive on.7 pin round plug.
Gauges are rusty and apart from compass I don’t know if any of them work. Voltmeter certainly doesn’t. Needs new battery. Can be started with pull cord. I rarely had success starting it cold with pull cord, but it can work when motor is hot. Comes with two fuel tanks, ladder and paddles. Boat and trailer registration due 23 December, but I’ll pay them if the boat sells. No reserve auction as it’s been clogging up my front yard because I didn’t list it for sale early this year as intended and I need space cleared to finish landscaping. Ring me on 0435 825 801 if you want to inspect it. Boat is in Eltham (Melbourne), Victoria.
No offers will be accepted prior to auction as it’s going to be sold to the highest bidder when the auction endsPayment is cash on collection within 7 days of sale.
