FOR SALE IS MY 1982 VAGABOND 42 SAILBOAT
I PURCHASED HER FROM A FRIEND OF MINE WHO WAS MOVING TO FLORIDA, HE WAS RUNNING OUT OF TIME TO SELL HIS THINGS BEFORE LEAVING AS HE HAD A DEADLINE FOR HIS WIFES NEW JOB THAT HE NEEDED TO BE THERE FOR .
HE ALSO NEEDED A TRUCK TO CARRY STUFF SOUTH SO I TRADED HIM MY 2000 FORD F350 7.3 DIESEL TRUCK WHICH HAD LOW MILES AND WAS VERY CLEAN ALONG WITH SOME CASH .
AS YOU CAN SEE BY MY FEEDBACK WE OWN A BUSINESS BUYING AND SELLING BOATS AND THAT WAS THE REASON I AGREED TO TRADE THIS BOAT AND THE REASON HE APPROACHED ME AS I AM AWARE OF ITS VALUE AND CONDITION , WE DONT DO MANY SAILBOATS ANYMORE AND OUT CORE BUSINESS IS LARGE POWERBOATS .
MY FRIEND HAD TRIED TO SELL IT PREVIOUSLY AND TWICE RECIEVED GOOD OFFERS BUT AS WE ALL KNOW ON E-BAY THE OFFER IS ONLY GOOD IF YOU ACTUALLY GET PAID !!
I HAVE HAD A LOT MORE WORK DONE TO THE BOAT SINCE TAKING POSSESION AND I WILL LIST EVERYTHING I KNOW BELOW .
THE PICTURES YOU SEE WERE TAKEN LAST WEEK SO THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE BOAT LOOKS LIKE NOW , I AM NOT PUTTING PICTURES FROM WHAT THE BOAT USED TO LOOK LIKE 2 YEARS AGO WHICH PEOPLE SEEM TO LIKE TO DO HERE .
THE BOAT IS CURRENTLY IN MY MARINA , I WILL COVER THE STORAGE UNTIL MARCH 1ST 2017 AT WHICH POINT YOU NEED TO EITHER WORK OUT A STORAGE AGREEMENT WITH ME OR MOVE IT TO ANOTHER MARINA , I CAN CONTINUE TO STORE IT HERE FOR $300 PER MONTH ON A MONTH TO MONTH BASIS UNTIL YOU ARE ABLE TO MOVE IT AFTER MARCH 1ST . IF YOU NEED TO LIVE ON IT THEN THERE ARE MARINAS WITHIN A MILE OF US THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE AND WE WILL HELP YOU TO MOVE THE BOAT THERE IF NEED BE , I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE LIVEABOARDS IN MY MARINA .
NOW ABOUT THE BOAT .
SHE WAS JUST RE LAUNCHED AROUND 3 WEEKS AGO , I DO HAVE PICTURES OF THE HULL OUT THE WATER WHICH WERE TAKEN AROUND A MONTH AGO , I HAVE HAD THE BOTTOM DONE PROFESSIONALLY , IT WAS SANDED AND FRESH BOTTOM PAINT / ANTIFOULING APPLIED , THERE ARE NO BLISTERS THAT I AM AWARE OF BELOW THE WATERLINE .
AFTER LAUNCHING HER WE SAILED HER APPROX 30 MILES TO HER CURRENT LOCATION WHICH IS UP THE SOUTH RIVER JUST OFF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY .
ABOVE THE WATERLINE HER HULL SIDES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION IN MY OPINION AND I THINK WITH A GOOD COMPOUND AND WAX WOULD LOOK FANTASTIC , THE HULL SIDES LOOK GOOD ALREADY SO WITH A GOOD SHINE SHE WOULD LOOK A LOT NEWER IN MY OPINION .
UP ON DECK THE TEAK DECKS ARE IN REASONABLE CONDITION , THE CAULKING BETWEEN THE TEAK STRIPS NEEDS TO BE REDONE , WE ACTUALLY DID THIS JOB ON ANOTHER VAGABOND 47 EARLIER THIS YEAR , IT IS ABOUT A 2 WEEK JOB , THE MOST TEDIOUS PART IS PULLING OUT THE OLD CAULKING , THEN YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THE TEAK IS COMPLETELY DRY AND YOU REAPPLY THE CAULK AND THEN RE SAND THE DECKS . SOME PEOPLE PREFER TO REMOVE THE TEAK COMPLETELY BUT I WILL LEAVE THAT UP TO YOU THIS TYPE OF JOB NEEDS TO BE DONE UNDER COVER OR IN THE SUMMER .
THE DECK IS SOLID UNDERFOOT AND THE TEAK IS STILL CLEARLY WELL ATTACHED TO THE DECKS .
THE COCKPIT SHOWS WELL , THERE ARE 2 LARGE SELF TAILING WINCHES WHICH MAKE FOR EASY HANDLING OF THE SAILS BY ONE PERSON .
THERE ARE STAINLESS SAFETY RAILS AROUND THE COCKPIT , THESE ARE DESIGNED MORE FOR LONG DISTANCE BLUE WATER CRUISING BUT HANDY TO HAVE NONE THE LESS .
THE SPRAY DODGER IS MISSING BUT THE STAINLESS FRAME IS STILL IN PLACE .
AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES SHE HAS ALUMINUM MASTS NOT THE ORIGINAL WOODEN ONES WHICH IS A HUGE PLUS , IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT SHE WAS EXTENSIVELY CRUISED YEARS AGO WHICH EXPLAINS ALL THE UPGRADES .
THE MAIN AND MIZZEN SAIL ARE BOTH IN GOOD CONDITION IN MY OPINION , THE FORWARD HEADSAIL IS NOT AND WILL NEED REPLACEMENT , I THINK YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT AROUND $500 FOR REASONABLE USED ONE .
THE STANDING RIGGING APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION , THE RUNNING RIGGING IE ROPES WILL NEED REPLACEMENT .
AS YOU GO DOWN BELOW I THINK YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED WITH THE SPACE BELOW , THE INTERIOR IS IN I WOULD SAY AVERAGE CONDITION , CUSHIONS ETC LOOK DECENT .
THERE IS SOME WOODWORK TO DO THERE IS ROT IN SOME OF THE BULKHEADS AND THEY COULD USE REPAIR , I DID GET A PRICE OF $3000 TO HAVE THE WOODWORK REPAIRED BUT FRANKLY I THINK IF YOU A PERSON COULD TAKE THEIR TIME THEY COULD DO A LOT OF THE WORK THEMSELVES .
THE WORST AREA IS THE ICEBOX WHICH I TOOK A PICTURE OF . I HAVE POWERED UP MOST OF THE LIGHTS SO I GUESS YOU COULD FEASIBLY CONSIDER STAYING ON THE BOAT AFTER DOING SOME CLEANING . THERE ARE PARTS OF THE HEADLINER THAT WILL NEED REPLACEMENT AS WELL .
THE ENGINE APPEARS TO BE PICKLED AND WAS FULL OF DIESEL , I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WITH IT , I DID SEARCH AROUND AND FOUND A RUNNING TAKE OUT FOR THE SAME FORD LEHMAN 80HP FOR $2500 , IF YOU ARE INTERESTED I COULD TRY TO CALL THE SELLER AND SEE IF IT IS STILL AVAILABLE . WITH THAT BEING SAID I WOULD NOT WRITE THIS ENGINE OFF YET , IT LOOKS CLEAN FROM ABOVE BUT I HAVE A THEORY OF EXPECT THE WORST AND THEN BE HAPPY WHEN IT TURNS OUT TO BE A MORE SIMPLE FIX .
TO PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE , THERE ARE 7 OF THESE VAGABOND 42's FOR SALE ON YACHTWORLD . COM AT THE MOMENT , I ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK AT THEM , THERE IS EVEN ONE THAT IS VERY SIMILAR IN COLOR AND IF YOU GLANCED QUICKLY YOU MAY THINK YOU WERE LOOKING AT THE SAME BOAT ! ...................... 4 OF THEM ARE OVER $100,000 , 2 ARE BETWEEN $80,000 AND $100,000 AND THE CHEAPEST IS $65,000 !!! OUR PRICE IS LESS THAN HALF OF THE CHEAPEST ONE AND LITERALLY AROUND 25% OF THE PRICE OF THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONES .
THE REASON I AM TELLING YOU THIS IS BECAUSE THE BOAT DOES NEED SOME TLC , WOOD WORK ETC BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF EQUITY IN HER , FIX HER GO CRUISING OR CLEAN HER UP AND SELL HER , WE HAVE STOPPED DOING SAILBOATS OURSELVES AND CONCENTRATING ON BIGGER POWER BOATS OR WE WOULD CONSIDER FIXING AND CLEANING HER UP OURSELVES , MY GOAL IS TO RECOUP THE MONEY I OUTLAYED, THE VALUE OF MY TRUCK AND IF I MAKE A FEW $$$ THAT WOULD BE A BONUS TOO .
WE DO HAVE A CLEAR MARYLAND TITLE TO CONVEY WITH THE BOAT .
