This boat is currently on the hard in Lagos, Portugal.You are essentially paying for a brand new Beta Marine 30hp diesel engine and getting a boat for free!  The engine alone is worth over £7,000.  Take advantage of our “misfortune” and get an absolute bargain (although I would rather keep the boat, I don’t actually think that having our beautiful baby girl was unfortunate!...read on) It is with regret that we have decided to put Seahorse up for sale.  We bought her in the Canary Islands and then sailed her north to Lagos, Portugal (against the prevailing winds) in order to work on her, as we wanted to make some changes and spruce her up…then we had a baby and now I simply don’t have time to spend at the boatyard in order to get her ready to go again. If you want a solid boat that can take any amount of punishment that you or the sea cares to throw at it, this is the boat for you.  The keel is made from 8mm plate and each compartment (saloon & forward cabin/engine compartment/aft cabin) is separated by a watertight steel bulkhead.  When the wind got up on our passage, we we able to hove to under reefed mizzen alone and she lay very comfortably into the seas such that we were both able to go below decks and get some rest. Thanks to her long keel with lifting centreboard, she draws only 0.8m with the board up, or 1.5m with it down, allowing you to take this boat almost anywhere, including the inland waterways if you so wish as her masts fold down easily using her built-in A frame.  No more crane fees for stepping the masts!  She will also dry out and stand upright on her keel without the need for stilts.  Imagine the looks on everyone else’s face in the anchorage when you anchor so close in that you simply step off your boat onto the sand and walk ashore when the tide drops! Accommodation is for a comfortable 4: 2 in the double berth in the forepeak and 2 singles in the aft cabin.  You could sleep a further 1 in the saloon, which makes a comfortable berth while on passage. Seahorse will need some work before you can realistically launch her.  The main thing we were planning was to replace the old engine.  We got as far as removing the old engine and buying a brand new Beta Marine 30hp diesel for her (including gearbox, mounts and shaft coupling).  Although in place on the boat, the new engine has not yet been installed.  This comes with a load of spares and the best control panel they do - control panel C deluxe including tachometer with running hour recorder, oil pressure and water temperature gauges, voltmeter etc.  We know that no one will be interested in paying full price for the engine plus extra for the boat, so we basically have to give the boat away for free and are just trying to recover most of the cost of the engine.  If this doesn’t work, we’ll sell the engine on its own. We were also going to redesign the galley and move the head further aft to give us space to add a shower.  We have therefore dismantled the galley and the area where a fridge used to be opposite.  The kitchen sink and stove are still on board, but the woodwork will need to be refitted. Depending on how much experience you have with steel, you might think that Seahorse looks like a right mess but fear not as the rust is in fact mainly superficial.  The vast majority of the hull is still as thick as the day she was built - I have measured this by ultrasound.  The exception is on deck, which is where most of the rust marks are coming from.  Due to the fact that she was built with a teak deck on top of the steel, as most boats were back then, the paint has eventually failed in places but obviously can’t be re-applied because of the wood.  The previous owner removed the teak from the aft deck and we were planning on doing the same on the main deck. Seahorse’s sails are all in fairly good condition.  She comes with furling genoa (sacrificial UV strip needs replacing), staysail, mainsail, mizzen, yankee and spinnaker.
