EASY TO MANAGE ALONE THE BOAT WAS ORIGINALLY POWERED BY A VOLVO PENTA AQ151C 2.5 LITER PETROL PRODUCING 143HPIT SUFFERED EXHAUST MANIFOLD FAILURE WHICH RESULTED IN THE ENGINE BEING FLOODED AND LEFT FOR A LONG PEROID OF TIME..THIS HOWEVER DID NOT CONCERN ME AS MY PLAN WAS TO CONVERT IT TO A MODERN HIGH POWERED DIESEL !!I PURCHASED A VW PASSAT TDI 130<ACCIDENT DAMAGED> WITH LOW MILEAGE IT WAS HEALTH CHECKED AND REMAPPED TO 165HP THE ENGINE WAS THEN REMOVED ALONG WITH WIRING LOOM AND ADAPTED TO FIT.A BRIEF BREAKDOWN OF WHAT WAS ENTAILED IS AS FOLLOWS..original Volvo bell-housing was retained and modified to fit vw engine with marine grade 5043 alloy adaptor plate<see pics> all bearings replaced. along with external bellowscustom made stainless steel double skinned exhaust elbow water cooled.sea water pump has been fitted to run directly from engine crankshaft..should it unlikely fail impeller can be moved to belt driven pump already fitted to alternator drive belt in place of power steering pump.. a useful emergency backup.. the engine still has its own coolant to prevent saltwater contact. using the modified Volvo heat exchanger. which means i was able to fit a heater matrix in the cabin with a 3 speed fan perfect for keeping the wife/kids warm while you are fishing..i was told by other engineers it wouldnt work would not plain not enough revs etc etc.but my determination proved it can be done. ive travelled from the river Clyde to bally castle IN IRELAND ...yes over the Irish sea.and backi will give some technical info but feel free to contact me with questions.TECH INFO.VW TDI 130 ENGINE.
