Here for sale is my Kestrel 22 sailing boat. She is a Mk2 bilge keel version of this particular design. Apparently it's quite a respected design, and having sailed it for the last couple of years I can vouch for it's forgiving nature and confident sea keeping. In the last 2 years I have carried out extensive repairs and upgrades to bring the boat to a safe sailing condition. Below the waterline there are all new skin fittings and seacocks, fresh anti foul on a yearly basis and hull sides compounded and polished up to the rubbing strip. There is a brand new mainsail with 2 slab reefing points and the foresail was checked and laundered last winter. It will however need the UV strip replacing at the end of this year. The boom has been replaced to accept the new slab reefed sail as the old set up was for roller reefing. The mast has been unstepped and all new masthead lights, deck/steaming light, VHF antenna and wind vane fitted, along with new wiring through the mast and all new running rigging. Standing rigging has been checked and tensioned by one of our on site riggers. Cockpit seating has been replaced with composite material, and the drains now have all new plumbing. The interior is pretty much standard and in pretty good order, which is one of the things that attracted me to the boat. There's a sink with new whale pump and new bladder tank, 2 burner hob and grill running from a pair of 907 gaz bottles which are stored outsid. There is a hanging space, full height cupboard with shelving, sea toilet in separate compartment and 4 berths, 2 in the forepeak and one either side in the saloon area. On deck, we have just cleaned back and applied new anti slip paint, there is a full set of fenders, mooring lines and 2 anchors with chain and rode. I also fitted a deck light halfway up the mast to help with anchor setting etc at night. All the required lights are fitted and working, there is a working VHF radio, a marine grade battery master switch and large serviceable battery. For propulsion we use a 4hp mercury saildrive motor on a transom fitted bracket. This moves the boat along very well and is very economical. Unfortunately, the original Vire inboard was found to be beyond economical repair and was removed. I have installed skin fitting, seacock and strainers, in preparation for a replacement. The propshaft and bearings have been checked and serviced and are fitted, and there is a very clean 3 bladed bronze prop. As for bad points, the loo doesn't work, needs a seal kit which I will do if I have time, but apart from that, although I say it myself, this is a great little boat that is ready to take sailing. For it's size there is a surprising amount of space available. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time with Windhover, but now a bigger boat beckons. I think I have covered everything, but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. As a point of interest, the boat is currently moored in Brighton marina, good facilities and easy access to lots of shops and restaurants and sailing at any state of tide. However, we had it transported by road from Weymouth which was a mostly painless process involving a 4x4, a flat bed trailer and a reasonable fee. |
