For sale is my 5.8 metre Chinook rib, "Sea Fury", which I am selling due to family and work changes.This rib was built as a dive boat and is primarily what I used it for, but is equally suited as a fishing / pleasure boat.Chinook ribs are renowned for their legendary tough build quality and durability. This model has an exceptionally deep V hull making it ideal for use in rough or choppy conditions. It cuts through large swells and large confused sea states around the local headlands with easy and gives a very comfortable ride. The boat is powered by Mariner 40 HP 2 stroke engines. These are actually Yamaha engines (Yamaha 40HP 6E9 Engine code) and all parts are interchangeable. This makes it easy to get spare parts. There's a video of both engines running here: The engines are manual start and manual tilt trim. The engines are operated from the console where there is a twin configuration quicksilver control box. They are extra long shaft. Both engines are in good condition and usually start easily.I recently overhauled the Hallmark Rollercoaster trailer with new bearings, brake shoes and brake cables. The trailer is manufactured by Indespension UK so parts are easily available. A manual winch and angled rollers guide the boat on.The boat electrics include:*85 Amp hour battery securely fixed inside console - charged by lighting coil rectifier from Port engine*COBRA DSC Fixed mount VHF radio*Navigation lights*Deck Flood Light*BEP Marine Waterproof Switch panel*Dash-mounted kill switches for both engines*Battery isolator switch*Durite fuel gauge*Illumination wiring for rev counters, fuel gauge, etc etc*Marine grade stainless steel cigarette lighter socket (12V) for external accessories*Full top quality soldered marine wire throughoutThe rib easily carries 6 people and will even plane comfortably with 8 people on board. With a couple of people in, she will cruise at well over 30 knots. With twin engines there is very fast acceleration, good handling and redundancy - should one engine fail, the other one would be sufficient on its own to get you safely home. The rib has a stainless steel bottle rack that will accommodate 4x15 litre scuba bottles.Unlike many similar ribs this boat has no seats - there is a console / steering area with a secure stainless steel padded back rest and seat, which keeps the cox secure and comfortable with excellent visibility. Other passengers sit on the tubes or front locker. I had the rib completely re-tubed in June 2012 by Rib Shop Ltd in Southampton at a cost of £4000, with a 5 year guarantee until June 2017. The tubes are in excellent condition, made from military-grade Hypalon and fitted with wear patches, handles and lifelines for divers/swimmers. There's also fairlead on the bow for the anchor (which is included with chain and rope). In all I've put nearly £10,000 into this boat, so I'm letting it go really cheap because I need to sell it in the next couple of weeks.Bad pointsThe boat has been sitting unused on my dad's driveway for almost 2 years, since I moved away. The console is covered against weather and the engines have been started every month or so, but the battery which runs the electrics is probably flat and in need of charging. While I've recently overhauled the trailer to make sure it's roadworthy, due to the length of time since she was last launched, the rollers may well be sticking and need some attention.The console has had many different fittings over the years and in wanting to get out and use her I quickly covered the old holes by gluing on sections of plastic barrel and silicone. The console is structurally strong and water-tight but a bit tatty - a few hours with a glass fibre kit and some paint would make a quick, easy and professional job of it. There's a crack in the front locker which encases the fuel tank, from where the anchor was dropped on it. It doesn't cause an issue, since I've placed a wooden seat over the top of it anyway, but a bit of handy fibreglassing could soon sort it out. The engines are in good condition HOWEVER as they have been sitting out of the water for couple of years, and being 2 stroke, even though they have been started regularly, evaporation of petrol in the fuel lines/carbs has caused some oil build up. So when they are started with muffs on, expect lots of smoke and some oil expulsion from the exhaust. What they really need is a good run at sea under load to clear the carbs and then they should be back to their usual smooth-running self. Note that they are still in mechanically fine condition and will start and run reliably.That's all I can think of for now.Questions and viewingsThe boat is stored out of water near Tintagel, Cornwall, where I am currently located until 10/08/2016. I am happy to answer questions over the phone, and am happy to arrange viewings with interested bidders (the engines can be run on muffs) but you must be seriously interested and it must be at a convenient time. Please contact me to arrange a viewing. It won't be possible to launch the boat for demonstration / sea trials because I now don't have a vehicle to tow it with or a launch permit.PaymentPayment is strictly cash on collection.
