Meet "Mairin" my 1970 Ericson 29. Her name is a Gaelic word which means "Star of the Sea" and she is all of that. She is a dream to sail reaching hull speed at only ten knots of wind with only a slight heal. She stands up to a 25 knot blow under a single reefed main and working jib. I don't think i ever got her rail wet.Her hull is hand laid-up solid fiberglass with internal cast lead 3900 lbs. ballast. The deck, cockpit and cabin is hand hand laid-up fiberglass with end grain balsa core (dry no soft spots). Like other boats built in the '70s "Mairin" is built SOLID. When she was hauled out last year her solid construction was evident. No soft spots anywhere on deck and no blisters on the hull. On deck she has wide side decks with toe rail and teak hand rails on the cabin top make going foreword safe and secure. Stainless steel bow pulpit and stern rail with single life lines supported by deck mounted stainless steel stanchions. The cockpit seats allow the crew to stretch out for a nap or sit and brace your feet on the leeward bench when healed over.  Thick Cockpit cushions, covered with heavy duty vinyl provide even more comfort.
"Mairin" is well laid out and equipped for single/short handing. All sail controls are led back to the cockpit with turning blocks ending with four Garhauer rope clutches and a Barlow winch on the starboard cabin top. A four part boom vang is also controlled from the cockpit as is the single line main sail reefing. Two Barlow 16 winches and fourteen feet of rail mounted one inch ginoa track control the the fore sail sheets. In the galley an "L" shaped counter houses a deep stainless steel sink with a brass hand pump supplied by a 16.7 gal fresh water tank. the sink drains to a brass gate valve through hull. Their is a large top loaded insulated ice box with a double hinged teak trimmed lid. An Origo 3000 two burner non pressurized alcohol stove is built into the Formica covered counter top.
