This auction is for 2 shares/weeks in the ‘Sailor V’ co-ownership syndicate.Depending on the time of year, it would cost between £600 and £1200 a week to hire a 4 berth river cruiser equivalent to ‘Sailor V’ on the French inland waterways. As one of the co-owners of ‘Sailor V’, however, your week's cruise would only cost you between £260 and £360.
The shares in the syndicate entitle the member/shareholder to ownership of 1/15th of the syndicate's assets (boat, trailer and other equipment) and two weeks use of the boat on the French inland waterways every March or October for the life of the syndicate. Shares/weeks in the syndicate do not have to be consecutive and can be sold at any time. The availability and price of other shares/weeks are set out on the syndicate website. This is a private, non-commercial syndicate run by the members for the members. There are no management fees. The ‘Sailor V’ syndicate is similar to others I have set up in France, the first of which is now in its tenth successful year and the members have recently voted to keep it going for at least another five years. ‘Sailor V’ is a 26ft trailerable 4 berth river cruiser which I have designed and built from exceptionally strong low-maintenance epoxy composite using my 30 years of experience building boats for exploring the rivers and canals of mainland Europe and which is currently nearing completion at my yard near Marlborough, Wilts. I plan to be an active member of the ‘Sailor V’ syndicate.
'Try before you Buy'Although 'Sailor V' has already been tested on the Kennet and Avon canal, it will have its 'official' launch on the Thames this summer prior to leaving for France in the autumn for a five week 'shake-down' cruise from the R. Lot via the Canal du Midi to the Camargue. Individuals or couples wishing to join the cruise for a few days (and occupy the forward cabin) who subsequently decide to join the syndicate will have the cost of the cruise (£240 per person per 6 days/nights, food and drink on board included) refunded in full if they subsequently decide to join the syndicate.
