‘Delta Swift’ was built in May 1968 and is boat No.128 of only 148 aluminum boats built by Ray Wright, these early Delta's were carefully hand built to a very high standard using WW2 aircraft techniques. Later in 1968 Ray Wright switched to the then new fiberglass methods for production of all later models of Delta boats. In 2015 Delta Swift was subject to a compassionate yet meticulous restoration including full strip and respray of the hull and deck, wherever possible the original components retained, refurbished and refitted in order to preserve the originality of the marque.Power comes from the original equipment 1600cc Ford Kent Cross-Flow engine which retains its Aquaplane Tuning Performance inlet manifold and a pair of 1.25 inch SU Carburetor’s. The engine also features the original Aquaplane water cooled exhaust manifold. The engine was found to be in good running condition but has benefited from a full strip down, clean and was reassembled with new crank and big end bearings, valves, gaskets and a new oil pump. A minor leak was found in the internal sump oil cooling-loop and this was repaired, an overhaul kit was installed in the Jabsco Raw Water pump used to keeps the engine oil and exhaust manifold cool. The engine runs a sealed coolant system which is not of a conventional radiator type but instead comprises of two cooling pods built into the hull that act as a heat exchange between hot coolant and sea water, the hull being aluminium is an excellent heat conductor thus ensuring this ingenious cooling system works well and protect the engine from exposure to raw water.Forward drive to the propeller shaft is via lever operated clutch which has been overhauled with new clutch and pressure plate, a new clutch master cylinder and hydraulic pipes were installed and an overhaul kit was fitted to the slave cylinder. A new Cutlass bearing was fitted to the propeller-shaft ‘P’ bracket, new rudder bearings and water seal tubes have been fitted.
A completely new wiring harness was made and installed, the starter motor, dynamo and voltage regulator units have been reconditioned. The dash and cockpit have been professionally re-trimmed with marine grade vinyl and fitted with period correct instrumentation and switch gear. A new matching tonneau cover protects the cockpit. The Delta’s original badges and deck fittings have been re-chromed and stylish and practical pop-up chrome cleats were fitted to the rear port and starboard quarters.Delta Swift rides on her original Ray Wright Marine trailer number 82, the trailer is in excellent condition for its age and has been painted, fitted with new tyres, wheel bearings, winch strap and the hull support bunks have been re-carpeted to protect the underside of the boat. The boat is presented in a livery of Seacrest Green over Old English White with cream upholstery and matching tonneau cover, it looks beautiful. On the water ‘Delta Swift’ is quick onto the plane and will pull a mono-skier with ease, the boat handles precisely and has an excellent turn of speed being capable of around 40mph in calm conditions. A truly classic runabout and a joy to drive, the boat is light and easy to tow and handle, turn-key and ready to go for the boating season. This is a lovely usable classic boat with excellent vintage appeal that will put a grin on your face, this boat looks the part behind a 50's or 60's classic car. Featured in Classic Motorboat Association Magazine and participated in several CMBA classic boat events.A detailed catalogue of photographs showing the restoration can be made available. For more information call Michael on 01798 344122 or 07970 543130 Can be viewed at GU28 0AN
