Estimated price for orientation: 200 $

Category: Narrowboats or Canalboats

Description

This auction is for a berth for 6 nights in the forward cabin of a 26ft 'mini-barge' called the Sailor V that I will be taking on a leisurely cruise along the southern French inland waterways - from Castelmoron on the River Lot via the Canal du Midi to Avignon and Arles at the bottom of the Rhône - starting on Tuesday 6 September this year. This is roughly the same trip as that made by Rick Stein on TV, though, as I'm in a somewhat smaller boat, I can make various excursions - up the Baïse and to Narbonne, for example.Guests will be able to join the boat wherever I have got to on a particular date and can stay on board for 6 days and nights of a 7 day leg (stage). I have arranged the various legs to start and finish where there is a nearby railway station. I shall not be trying cover more than 150km per leg especially where there are lots of interesting places to visit on shore. (There will be a couple of folding bicycles on board). All food and drink on board will be included in the price achieved by the auction (which will be the price per person per 6 days/nights). A couple can convert the 2 single longitudinal berths in the forward cabin to a transverse double if they wish. An individual can pay a 25% supplement to have the forward accommodation to him/herself at night. I shall sleep in the aft cabin. Forward and aft cabins will be communal areas during the day and the aft cabin can be open or enclosed depending on the weather. Guests may be asked to help out in locks and during mooring manoeuvres and may pilot the boat periodically if they wish. My name is Edmund Sylvester (see photo) and I have been a professional boatbuilder for over thirty years, specialising in tough but lightweight boats including the unique 'Gem' and 'Bon Viveur' boats. Since I retired, I've been building the Sailor V so that I can pootle about on the French inland waterways during my twylight years and the boat is now nearing completion at my workshop not far from Marlborough, Wilts. Visitors are more than welcome to come and see the boat during the final stages of fit-out.For further details of the boat, the itinerary and the schedule, please contact me on 07867 94 33 95 or at epsylvester@btinternet.com.
