Alcyone was built in 1960 by Cardnell Bros in Essex. I obtained her in 2012 as a retirement rebuild project. I qualified as a boat builder in Southampton in the early seventies and needed something to keep me out of the house when I retired in 2011.She had rot in the beam shelf, sheer strake and two planks. The 13 ft of damaged beam shelf was replaced with laminated Douglas fir and the bad planking was replaced using Utile. The paint on the exterior of the hull was cleaned off and primed. The 1.2 ton cast iron ballast keel was removed, descaled and coated with epoxy resin. The split wood keel was removed and a new one made up from 3" Iroko, this was fitted along with new Iroko floors. The ballast keel was refitted and bolted up with new keel bolts. All centreline fastenings have been renewed. The garboards were rescrewed with silicone-bronze screws. A new self-draining cockpit was built. The engine was reinstalled on new Iroko engine beds. A new 33 litre fuel tank fitted along with new exhaust etc. The deck was cleaned off/renewed and sheathed with epoxy/glass cloth as was the cabin top and the cockpit.New mahogany hand rails were fitted. A new galvanised tabernacle and stemhead roller were fitted. New bulkheads were fitted along with new bunks in the saloon and fo'c'sle. She was given a complete repaint inside including the bilges. Two water tanks were fabricated and secured in the bilge with an electric motor and faucet. A new automatic electric bilge pump was fitted along with a Whale gusher pump operated from the cockpit. New fuseboard, LED lights and marine radio/CD player were fitted along with a new VHF radio both with waterproof speakers in the cockpit. All wiring is new. All the upholstery is new and covered in blue vinyl. She has been fitted with a new Origo spirit two burner hob. She carries a new 'Bruce' anchor and 30 metres of 8 mm chain. The wooden mast has been overhauled and painted white. A stainless boarding ladder has been mounted over the transom. New toe rails and rubbing strakes in varnished mahogany have been fitted. She has been given new windows held in with stainless steel surrounds. She has three jibs, two spinnakers and a mainsail all in reasonable condition. The stainless steel standing rigging is in serviceable condition. A more comprehensive list is available on demand along with  more photos.
