21’ ALPHA-BEACHCOMBER SWAMPSCOTT DORY with Calkins Trailer
This is a PRISTINE vintage 21’ Beachcomber-Alpha Swampscott Dory, originally designed as a racing dory byWilliam H. Chamberlain (1864-1939) in 1903, for the Beachcomber Club of Marblehead, MA, and professionally built in Port Townsend, Washington in 1982. Classic lapstrake construction w/bronze nails and roves approx. 4” o.c spacing. A dry and seaworthy vessel, recently refurbished and freshwater sailed one time since. This large dory is a great daysailer, rowing craft, motor cruiser and/or family boat, and:
SET UP FOR:
TANDEM ROWING: One or two person scull rowing, w/ four 11’3” beautifully crafted wooden curved blade oars (w/leathers and buttons); four scull oarlocks; with a pair of tandem anthropomorphic slide rowing seats.
SAILING-EXPEDITION: 15’ mast; spritsail rig; 110 sq. ft. main + 35 sq. ft.jib. Original (I believe) Port Townsend sails in good condition, but with some mice damage and repairs as shown.
MOTORING-FISHING: Sliding brass motor mount near aft opening as shown; originally made to mount a 4-5 hp single stroke outboard long-shaft (possibly "Seagull" or "Tomos" engine).
OVERALL SPECIFICATIONS:
VESSEL: LOA (feet): 21’; Beam (inches): 64”
Centerboard: swing down type brass or bronze with cable crank.
Four Lift out Floor Grates; Anchor with chain and approx 100’ of 5/8” rope;
Tiller: 5’3” wooden; Boat Cover w/four vents.
TRAILER: 1996 Calkins w/ excellent paint, tires, lights and wiring. Highway ready.
