. THE MV BANKS. SHE WAS AN EXPLORER CLASS GENERAL PURPOSE NAVY VESSEL BUILT IN 1959/60. LENGTH 29.90m,BEAM 13.67m,DRAUGHT 3.2m.AND CAN CARRY 95t OF CARGO.WITH 2/6 BERTH CABINS,1/3 BERTH CABIN,2/4 BERTH CABINS AND MASTERS CABIN.The vessel has had a major refit in 2001and has been at dock. The vessel was in Victorian survey, completing initial Waterways Survey for the carriage of 100 day passengers in 1C survey and 2B survey for 12 persons and 95 tons of cargoWorks carried out were as follows;. Vessel drawings submitted to the NSW Waterways Authority for approval for initially 1C servicewith 100 day passengers and 25 berthed passengers.. All machinery, including main engines, axillary gen sets, bilge pumps, winches etc refittedrebuilt or replaced where necessary.. Four new additional steel watertight bulkheads have been fitted at the collision bulkhead,. New deck plating, side framing and doors fitted to superstructure.. New bridge structure and wing decks, windows and doors fitted.. New electric over hydraulic steering system installed.. New forecastle access fitted.. Air conditioning in crew areas.. New electrical distribution boards installed and operable along with a new 415 volt standby bilgepumps.. New additional 8.5 KVA gen set for emergency lighting.. Several new aluminum approved watertight doors purchased for new bulkheads along withseveral approved aluminum doors for bridge deck entries and numerous expensive brass framedwindows.. Bulbous bow and bow thruster fitted to vessel, all constructed to approved drawings.. Mild steel propeller shafts replaced by new 95.25 mm stainless steel shafts.. 3 blade Elephant Ear propellers replaced by modern 4 Blade Mikado props.. Hull topsides spot blasted and undercoated.. Hull bare metal blasted and a new Hempel, tin free, paint system applied.. The entire hull had a new Hempel paint system applied to it externally.. New commercial galley fitted.. New foremast and boom, mainmast and boom and associated rigging fitted.. Internal fit out on main deck upgraded to include saloon dining area adjacent to galley (rose wood).. Wheelhouse gutted and refitted with owners cabin behind wheelhouse.. Safety equipment fitting for 1C/2B passenger service.. Vessel fitted with new HI-frog fixed fire detection and fire fighting system in engine room, galleyand all accommodation spaces.
