A world-class sport fishing boat that's never seen a fish This Bertram 28 was owned and operated by my father in his retirement years, a lifelong Pacific Northwest pleasure boater who kept this one up with clean rags and an open checkbook. My folks would day cruise in her from their slip in Friday Harbor, once or twice visiting a bed and breakfast in Pender but mostly spent boating days tooling around Washington State’s San Juan Islands, getting back to the marina before dark. Location: Friday Harbor, WA, U.S.A. Hauled, serviced, and detailed every year (once he was unable to polish and wax it himself), this is the 28 you’ve hoped to find — my father bought it from someone just like him, if you follow. My sister and I have racked our brains for ways it might make sense for us to keep the boat, but it’s just not meant to be. Someone is going to be delighted with her, there’s a ton of boat there for the size. This summer saw new bottom paint, zincs, and 4 new batteries. Twin 225 hp gas Mercruisers are fresh water cooled and are running perfectly at 1200 hours; cruises at 19 knots @2900 rpm, wide open can do 28 knots. Dual driving stations for all-weather cruising, custom navy blue low-profile fitted snap canvas that covers the flybridge. Stand-up head, full kitchen, dinette and v-berth are as spotless as the exterior; radar, depth sounder, marine radio, GPS etc. all work. Diesel heater present but capped off — my mom said she could smell diesel no matter what was done, so that satisfied her — and the boat still has its original fiberglass tank, so no ethanol fuel for you. Fortunately there are plenty of harbors selling ethanol-free in the San Juans, although a new owner could certainly replace the tank. Long story short, if you’re after a project boat, this probably isn’t the one for you. If you’re ready to take on fuel and start boating, I look forward to hearing from you. Slip may be transferable, clean title in hand. Note: the dinghy is not (necessarily) included, it's a vintage Ranger Minto with the full sailing rig that would probably add $2000 to the price.
